2028 Air-Gap Dual Plane Intake for Chevy Small Block with Vortec Heads
An air-gap, dual-plane intake manifold for Gen I Chevy small blocks using 1996-and-later Vortec (8-bolt) cylinder heads or E-Tec heads. It also fits 1995-and-earlier blocks that have been fitted with Vortec heads. The air-gap design keeps the runners away from engine heat for a cooler, denser charge. Power band: 1,500 to 6,500 RPM.

- Operating range: 1,500–6,500 RPM
Before you order:
- Fits Vortec-style 8-bolt heads only. For conventional 12-bolt SBC heads, see our 2701 or 2026. Not for LT1 reverse-flow heads.
- On 1996+ Vortec blocks, run a short heater hose from the tapped hole in the front of the manifold to the 5/8 in. nipple on the passenger side of the water pump. These blocks have no internal water bypass.
- 0.120 in. thick intake gaskets are recommended.
- Check linkage, fuel delivery, distributor and hood clearance.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if I have Vortec heads?
Count the intake bolts. Vortec heads use 8 intake bolts (4 per side), installed close to vertical. Conventional SBC heads use 12.
Do I need to do anything extra on a 1996+ block?
Yes. Add the short heater-hose water bypass described above, since 1996+ Vortec blocks don’t have one internally. Read our Vortec carb conversion guide for the full checklist.
